177 Mile Tribute Run

Interested in running?

Valor Run, Inc. works with runners interested in completing their own 177 mile tribute run in remembrance of the 177 women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan during combat operations in the Global War on Terror. The location, time and duration of the event is completely up to the individual runner. Runners must have significant marathon or ultra running experience and should allow a minimum of six months for planning and training. Do you have a friend as crazy as you who also wants to run? You may run this together, but each runner must complete the 171 miles. It is not a relay. This is once-in-a-lifetime, life-changing experience, but it is not for everyone. It will consume you.

Still interested?

“This run is not just ground distance covered, but lives lost. I want to offer peace of mind or a sense of hope to all the friends and family these ladies left behind, that their loves ones legacy still lives on. Someone will always remember them and their sacrifice.”

- GySgt Pamela Torres

The Founding Valor Run

Nancy Lacore, US Navy Captain

The founding Valor Run was in October 2014. It began in Chesapeake, VA on Oct. 12 and ended in Arlington, VA on Oct. 18. Nancy Lacore ran 25 miles each day, completing the final 10 miles a route from the Pentagon to the Women's Memorial at the foot of Arlington National Cemetery. 160 runners and walkers joined Nancy for the final 1/4 mile of the run. This event raised more than $33,000 for two nonprofit organizations, the Women's Memorial and the Combat Wounded Coalition (formerly Wounded Wear). Valor Run, Inc. developed out of this run.

*since that run, the number of women killed during combat operations in Iraq or Afghanistan was confirmed at 161
